Sun Kissed & Co.: Good for You, Better for the World

Kimberly Lim began her small business with the goal of combining self-care with environmentally friendly products. Now, through her business Sun Kissed & Co., she has planted more than 600 trees, created custom products, and begun diving into the wholesale market. So, how did she do it?

Sun Kissed & Co. started as many businesses do — a passion project that quickly grew into a full-time gig. Kimberly was finishing her last quarter at University of California, Santa Barbara during the pandemic, and she credits self-care with helping her push through the final weeks. Although self-care helped her get through, it also sparked a business idea that would grow in unexpected ways.

“My business was born from my desire to merge self-care with our environment,” Kimberly said. “I believe that mental wellness goes hand in hand with physical wellness. Every one of my products is thoughtfully made with natural and clean ingredients, so it’s good for you and better for the world.”

The small business offers a variety of hand-crafted candles, oils, lotions, and more. From clean home fragrance to one-of-a-kind skincare products, Sun Kissed & Co. is marking its place as an innovative and sustainable brand. As proof, the small business owner added another unique perk to each purchase.

“Last year, I decided to start planting a tree with every single purchase to further my green mission,” Kimberly said. “Since November 2021, I have planted more than 600 trees across the globe.”

She partnered with One Tree Planted to bring this vision to life, minimizing her carbon footprint and simultaneously adding another incentive for customers. Plus, shoppers can even choose where their tree is planted by voting on Sun Kissed & Co.’s Instagram polls at the end of each month. Growth isn’t just obvious in the hundreds of trees she’s helped plant, but also in the small business’ expansion. 

“I’m excited to tackle wholesale and create more custom products,” the business owner said. “I am currently working on getting into some amazing local boutiques that we have in Sacramento and the Bay Area.”

As Sun Kissed & Co. products start to appear in more stores, Kimberly noted the special nature of owning a small business in the Sacramento region.

She said, “I am so grateful to be born and raised in Sacramento. This community is truly amazing and the never-ending support blows my mind every single time.”
