Why This Small Business is So Frond of Sacramento

The perfect holiday gift can be hard to find – shoppers often spend hours browsing and brainstorming. But for AnnaLynn Quismorio, owner of Elk Grove nursery So Frond of You, finding the perfect gift means one thing: making sure it brings joy.

“A friend and I fell in love with plants right before the pandemic hit two years ago,” AnnaLynn said. “We loved how much joy plants brought into our lives and decided we wanted to spread happiness to the community as well.”

The business owner describes So Frond of You as a small neighborhood nursery. Based in Elk Grove, the business delivers plants to the greater Sacramento area, and shoppers can find So Frond of You inventory at the Village General Store in Roseville. Despite starting a business during the pandemic, AnnaLynn found a way to keep sharing the joy of plants.

“It has been an absolute whirlwind, but in the best way possible. I have learned the business world is a whole new territory from the medical world of nursing that I’m comfortable with,” she said. “It’s definitely been a roller coaster of trial and errors, learning to balance and prioritize. I have grown and gained so much from it. Every day is a learning experience.”

That learning experience is shared, as AnnaLynn described the people who constantly uplift her business. She said, “My husband, who I like to call the Plant Fairy, delivers plants to the community. He does so much behind the scenes like assisting with plant runs, helping stock our nursery, and care for plants.”

AnnaLynn credits the support from family and friends as a factor in So Frond of You’s existence. Like most small businesses, AnnaLynn doesn’t have an “official team,” but her people have made the business possible, especially when times are challenging.

“Being a small business owner, I have a lot of anxiety and doubts about myself. I often ask, ‘Am I good enough? Am I worthy? Is the business still worth it?’” she said. “However, all these doubts and trepidations disappear whenever I talk to a customer about plant care, introduce someone new to the plant world and see their face light up, or make new relationships with other small business owners.”

For AnnaLynn, every obstacle as a small business owner is worth pushing through, and the holiday season makes it all the more worthwhile.

“The gift of giving stays true with the holidays,” the business owner shared. “People are so passionate when it comes to plants and how much joy it brings them. So many customers like to purchase plants, accessories, gift cards, and more to pass on to those they care for to experience the same feelings.”

Sharing the joy of plants has now grown beyond a customer and business owner interaction. For So Frond of You, sharing the joy extends to the small business community in Sacramento and the perseverance of AAPI business owners.

“Bringing awareness to small business owners in the AAPI community plays such a key role in this tough industry,” AnnaLynn said. “I have been doing this business for two years, and people are still surprised to learn there is a small neighborhood nursery in Elk Grove.”
