Business at The Boulder Field is Climbing Upward

There’s only one place in Sacramento where you can find yoga, coffee, beer, kombucha on tap, youth programs, film showings, trivia nights, and last but certainly not least, bouldering. The Boulder Field has all of these and more.

Located on Belvedere Avenue, along the Power Inn Corridor, is this one-of-a-kind bouldering gym. Bouldering is considered a subset of rock-climbing gyms, according to Carlo Traversi, founder and owner of The Boulder Field. Not only is the business notable simply because “bouldering” isn’t a term you hear every day or because of its array of available activities, but rather due to its uniqueness among the other businesses in the area

Among the manufacturing and industrial businesses along the corridor, The Boulder Field stands out as an unexpected community hub, something Carlo sees as a strength for both the business itself and the Power Inn Corridor.

“I think [The Boulder Field] brings a certain amount of life to that area. I see our spot inspiring people to visit more of the businesses around there. We bring people that wouldn’t normally be there,” he said. “We want to bring in the most diverse groups of people with the most diverse economic backgrounds as well. Our location does a great job of that.”

While the pandemic forced the community nature of the business to pause for a time, Carlo is hopeful to restart events at the end of 2021 and bring that community feeling back.

“We want our business to be a reflection of the greater community,” Carlo said. “I feel like we do that fairly well and we’re always looking for ways to improve that.”

Prior to the pandemic, The Boulder Field hosted events and programs that welcomed people from all communities around Sacramento to gather and make new connections. The café at the bouldering gym is another exhibit of their community involvement, featuring coffee from Temple Coffee Roasters, another Sacramento-based business.

Looking ahead, Carlo said it is exciting to not only see the business develop, but to also see a glimpse of hope in being able to create community events again. The Boulder Field prioritizes community and the value of sharing new experiences together. For Carlo, this community extends outside of The Boulder Field, along the Power Inn Corridor, and out among the City of Sacramento. There aren’t many businesses in the area who encapsulate everything The Boulder Field does, and the team is determined to bring more of Sacramento through the doors to share the experience.

The community is tight knit, but always welcoming. Carlo said, “Come in, grab a pair of shoes, and you can get on your way.”
